Hi, we are in Arizona, at a KOA in Kingman.  We aren't going to the "Grand Canyon" this trip, we thought we might as well see Las Vegas- if one has to in one's life.  Not to mention the tourists in Grand Canyon area.  Death Valley is this trip.

Mom wrote this about leaving Mexico and driving 900 kms- in one day.

A long days drive
from dawn on the
rocky hills around Hotel
Playa de Cortez - cobbled, quiet,
colonial charming; carrying
treasures away from the
beaches-like conquistadores-
seahorses, pufferfish,
shells, skulls, and broken tiles.

A long day's drive past
fruitstands & pack horses,
taco shacks & military checkpoints.
To the borderland of
cactus & barbed wire...
Then through - all at once
through-
The sights, smells, sounds
and mysteries of Mexico
don't fade but disappear
into memory
And all the tangible is
understandable suddenly
conversations overhearable
signs each readable
instantly.

And we wouldn't stay there
but drove further North -
A kind of grief hiding
in with the tiredness and
stress and the growing dark.

Love you all,

Narah

  1. Hi y'all.
Since you're all back in the US of A I have to start talking Southern I guess....so How's you all doing? You certainly traveled a lot of KM's that day wow! We have also stayed in Kingman and hopefully the warm weather will hang around for a while. We love your Mom's poem and know the feelings she expressed. It's always sad to leave a place that you've come to enjoy and love....but coming home is also good. Right???
Love your blog and pictures. Save and happy traveling and don't spend too much money in Vegas. Oma tried twice to send a comment today and failed both times to get it out of the house. So the intention was there but the skills were missing.
Love you all, Opa and Oma
